Beskrivning

This film is made for young people and from their perspective. A visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau becomes part of an effort to understand what happened long ago and how it affects us today. It’s about the equal value of all people and the importance of personal responsibility.

The film features Emerich Roth, one of the few who survived the Holocaust during World War II. He describes what it’s like to be stripped of all human dignity. He also explains how important it is to know what happened, so that terrible events won’t happen again.

Tove Udsholt was left behind in a fishing village in Denmark when her mother fled to Sweden in the autumn of 1943. When the war ended and mother and daughter were to be reunited, the bond between them was broken. Tove Udsholt grew up with foster parents and never regained a loving relationship with her mother. Despite this, her message to today’s youth is: forgiveness is one of the most important things in life.

Today, there are very few people left with personal experiences of the Holocaust. Soon, they will all be gone. Then the responsibility lies with those of us who are alive now, and with those who will live in the future. That is why the young people are the real protagonists of the film.
